How To Travel Asia In 3 Weeks.

10/14/2018Jake Ryan

I recently spent near 2 months in Asia and had an absolutely amazing time exploring some of the places I’ve wanted to visit for so long.

Now, I know so many people would love to visit Asia and explore the amazing places on offer, but not everyone can spend 2 months exploring, so I have put together the best way to see Asia in 3 weeks. This post will follow the same destinations I visited myself, however I've shrunk down the time in each destination, based on what I believe would make the ultimate 3 week trip.

So if you’re wanting to visit some excellent places in Asia, this is the post for you. This is how to see Asia in 3 weeks (21 days) starting from London, but you can adjust this to your own home town.

Day 1. London to Singapore
Starting in London makes sense to me as it’s easily accessible and flights from London tend to be the cheapest (find the cheapest area nearest to you for the best deals, I use SkyScanner and Expedia to find the best prices for flights).

Flying from London to Singapore you can find direct flights with budget airline Norwegian Air. You can pick up tickets for as little as £300 one way for the 12 hour journey.

Day 2-5
Singapore
Singapore is a place I’ve wanted to visit for a few years now. Stay in the Marina Bay area to be in the best location for the tourist hot spots.

What not to miss
  • Gardens by the Bay
  • Singapore Flyer
  • Drinks at Raffles
  • Chinatown
  • Afternoon Tea at The Landing Point
Where to stay
Day 5 - 9
Cambodia - Siem Reap
From Singapore you’ll be able to pick up cheap flights to Cambodia. Cambodia is an absolutely amazing destination and if you’re planning a trip to South East Asia it’s one not to be missed.

If this is your first trip to Cambodia, head to Siem Reap to feel like Lara Croft as you explore the hundreds of temples you’ll find around this incredible city. You’ll be spoilt for choice in Siem Reap on what to do so plan your short time here wisely.

What not to miss
Temples
  • Angkor Wat at sunrise
  • Angkor Thom
  • Ta Prohm
  • Bayon
Other must see sights
  • Mount Kulen
  • Tonle Sap
  • Pub Street
  • Angkor National Museum
  • Made in Cambodia Market

Where to stay

Day 9 - 13
Vietnam - Hanoi and Ha Long Bay
From Cambodia you can catch a flight to Hanoi, Vietnam for less than a £100.

Hanoi is the perfect spot to base yourself for a trip to Ha Long Bay so head to Hanoi and check into a hotel for a couple of days and explore the bustling streets. Make sure you spare time to visit some temples and experience the nightlife.

What not to miss
  • Hoan Kiem Lake
  • The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long
  • Water Puppet Theatre
  • Dong Xuan Market
  • Hanoi Old Quarter
Where to stay
  • The Chi Hotel
  • Pan Pacific Hanoi
After you’ve had some time to explore Hanoi, book yourselves a tour to HaLong Bay. Here you’ll be able to marvel at the extraordinary islands and islets that make up Ha Long.

You can book overnight cruises through the bay and these include actives and food, meaning you’ll only have to pay for drinks while on board. I used Emeraude Cruises for my time in HaLong Bay. You can see how my cruise went here.

Day 13 - 18
Thailand - Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai
From Hanoi you can get to Chiang Mai for about £60. Chiang Mai is a popular destination for tourists in Thailand and for good reason. From caring for rescued elephants to hiking through beautiful mountains to find quiet waterfalls you’ll find something in Chiang Mai you love.

After your time in Chiang Mai, take a trip to Chiang Rai to visit sites such as the famous ‘White Temple’ and the Golden Triangle. You can also explore this with a day trip from Chiang Mai.

What not to miss
  • Doi Suthep
  • Old city temples
  • Karen Long Neck Village
  • Elephant Nature Park
  • White Temple
Where To Stay
  • Content Villa, Chiang Mai
  • Narittaya Resort and Spa
Day 18 - 21
Hong Kong

From Chiang Mai you can get to Hong Kong for about £60. Hong Kong is one of my favourite cities. With so much to do and see it’ll be hard to fit it all in within the 3 days but you’ll get a taster of this wonderful city.

From exploring the bustling streets, to climbing the stairs to get a close up view of the Big Buddha, Hong Kong is a place you absolutely must visit during any trip to Asia.

What not to miss
  • Lantau Island
  • Disneyland
  • Victoria Peak
  • Ride The Star Ferry
  • Ngong Ping Cable Car Ride
  • Night Markets

Where To Stay

  • Dorsett Wanchai Hotel

Time has come to say goodbye. Time to fly back to your chosen airport with a collection of incredible memories that will last you a lifetime.
