5 Things You Must Do In LA

2/21/2019Jake Ryan

Los Angeles is the place that dreams are made of and with the list of things to do almost as vast as the city itself, making sure you don't miss something can be a near impossible task.

So to help you make the most of your LA getaway, here is my list of the top 5 things you must do whilst in Los Angeles.

1. || SANTA MONICA

LA is home to some of the best beaches in the US, with none as famous as the legendary Santa Monica. The backdrop to many a Hollywood film, the 2 miles of idyllic shoreline are renowned the world over for it's golden sandscrystal clear waters and glorious sunshine 340 days a year. Make sure you head over to its famed pier, which boasts its very own theme park complete with roller coasters and Ferris Wheels, street performers and amazing fairground food. A truly enjoyable day out.

2. || RODEO DRIVE

The most expensive shopping strips in the world, no trip to LA is complete without a stroll around the uber-exclusive Rodeo Drive. Immortalised in the film Pretty Woman, the $200 million palm-tree lined cobbled streets are home to row upon row of designer stores, up-scale boutiques and sensational eateries. Not just for the wealthy, tourists are welcome to ogle the vast array of lavish wares and impressive sports cars. If you're feeling peckish, I recommend heading over to the Cheesecake Factory for delicious food, great prices and even the chance to spot one of the many celebrities that frequent the restaurant.

3. || CHINESE THEATER

One of the most memorable and iconic sights in all of LA is the striking TCL Chinese Theater. Representing the excess of Hollywood's Golden-Age, the giant pagoda, has seen many a Hollywood star grace through its lavish facade and for only $13.50 (£9.95) follow in their footsteps by taking the theater tour. Learn about its rich history from a knowledgeable guide, then head on out to the celebrity forecourt to marvel at the concrete cast hand prints and footprints of some of the most famous film stars of all time. Make sure you book in advance to ensure a spot!

4. || WALK OF FAME

A quintessential part of Hollywood, no trip to LA is complete without a stroll down the illustrious Walk of Fame. Spanning Hollywood Blvd and Vine street, more than 2,400 names of the most famed stars in history are immortalised in the pink terrazzo stars. For the most notable, check out those that are between 6750-6900 Hollywood Blvd and arrive early to avoid the crowds that quickly gather. A word of warning; if you have your picture taken with one of the characters dressed up as your favourite star, they expect at least a $5 tip for the privilege and can become quite aggressive if you refuse!

5. || HOLLYWOOD SIGN

A view that no-one visiting LA should miss is of course setting your sights on the Hollywood sign. One of the most recognised sights in the world, At 45-ft tall and 350-ft wide, nothing quite denotes Hollywood's extravagance quite as much as the beloved landmark. Although sadly, you can access it directly, there are ways to get sensational views of it. For the easiest photo opportunity, head to the highest walk way in the famed Hollywood & Highand Center on the Blvd. For the more adventurous, there are also several hiking trails that offer spectacular shots. My favourite has to be the 3 mile loop trail from Vermont Canyon Road. If you want to splash the cash you can also book a 60 min aerial tour and see the sign in style. Whichever way you view it, I can guarantee it is one  sight you will never forget!
