During our time in Sorrento, we partnered with Travel Etc. to experience their promenade in Positano evening tour.
Positano, known as the ‘Jewel of the Amalfi Coast’, is one of the most picture perfect towns in all of Amalfi with its colourful towering houses, cascading streets and quaint boutiques. Normally teaming with tourists, this tour offers you a more authentic experience of Positano, allowing you to enjoy its delights without the crowds that are associated with it during the day.
We were picked up at 6.05pm from our hotel in an air-conditioned minibus and collected the other people in our group. As we took the tour outside of peak season, there were only two other couples on the tour so we were able to enjoy a much more inmate experience than if we were on one of the group coach tours that other tour companies offer.
The start of the tour consisted of a stunning drive along the winding roads of the Amalfi Coast as the sun began to go down, with our tour guide, Rosa, giving unique insights into the history and heritage of the coast. Our first stop was a viewing platform that gave you panoramic views of Positano as well as the opportunity for a photo stop. I cannot describe how beautiful it was to see the sun setting on the colourful houses as the water glistened below. You can certainly understand why the Amalfi Coast is a World Heritage Site.
After our photo stop, we then continued our drive to Positano itself. Again driving along the winding streets, we were dropped off at the furthest point that cars can drive and our tour guide walked us down to the ‘heart’ of the town; the beach. We arrived here at 7.15pm and after being given some useful tips on where to eat and drink, were given three hours free time to explore the town.
Depending on what you like, the town has lots to offer. The beach is definitely the best place to enjoy the views of Positano itself, putting into perspective the sheer height of the houses as well as the beautiful cathedral. It is also where you can enjoy fine dining from famed restaurants such as Chez Black. As this is the hub of Positano, prices are quite high though. If you prefer a more quiet evening, head back up the streets towards the top of where the boutiques start, where you will find quaint restaurants, bars and bakeries where you can get a great bite to eat, at a more affordable price. Please be aware that if you are planning on shopping, do this as soon as you arrive as most of the shops close at 8.30pm and then eat afterwards.
After enjoying the delights of Positano, we were then driven back to our respective hotels in Sorrento. All in all it was a great experience, and one I would definitely recommend if you are not a fan of regimented tours and prefer to do your own thing.

Positano is such a great destination where I have an amazing time just before one day trip from san francisco. I must say its beauty fascinates me so much and highly advise you all must go there at least once.
