Interview Advent Day 9 : Bec Williams

12/09/2017Jake Ryan

Bec Williams is a Aussie based blogger who created TheHatchling.Co

From sharing her travel experiences to selling her hand made crafts, TheHatchling has become Becs personal online creative outlet.

We recently asked Bec a few questions about TheHatchling and her travelling.

Hey Bec, Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi Jake :) Well I'm 24 years old from Perth, Western Australia. I work part-time at a cute boutique style hotel in the centre of Perth city and use my days off working on my travel blog and online store. I enjoy photography, but mostly I'm the one in front of the lens while my very talented boyfriend takes the snaps. When I'm not exploring and writing about the beautiful places I get to visit, I'm at home in my bedroom working on different art and craft projects. I LOVE getting creative and my hope is to sell all of my little creations on my website in the new year. So stay tuned!

When and why did you start your blog TheHatchling.co ?
I created my website The Hatchling about a year ago now, but had never announced it's existence publicly until very recently. I started it as my own personal little online outlet for organising my travel photos along with the stories that went with them as well as well as a space to keep inventory of the craft projects I'd made and would one day intend to sell. When I first started blogging, my blog posts were more like diary entries (I've archived them now because trust me... it's a brain dump of my very scattered imagination and probably wouldn't even make sense to readers haha)

You've done some travelling, do you have a favourite destination you've visited?
I have 2 favourite locations that I've visited so far. The first one, without a doubt is Hobbiton Movie Set in Matamata, New Zealand. I've been there twice in the last couple of years and it's just the most magical little place I've ever seen and I definitely intend on making regular visits to keep my memory of it fresh. My other favourite is the Blue Lagoon in Ice Land. It's like an enormous hot bath in the middle of a frozen wonderland. It's definitely experience for the bucket list.

What is it you love about travel?
I think it's amazing seeing all of the vastly different landscapes the world has. It's so amazing to me. A also happen to make the most wonderful friendships when I travel and meet other likeminded people.

What is the best memory you have from your travels?
I'm going to mention Hobbiton again because my very favourite travel memory was when I was invited to attend the International Hobbit Day Festival with my boyfriend and some of my good friends. We had a private tour and an enormous banquet feast followed by maypole dancing and fireworks and the cutest little fiddle band.

What are your must pack essentials when travelling?
No matter how warm the climate is where I'm going, I always pack a scarf because I always get so cold on airplanes! It's also much better to use as a pillow on the plan than an actual neck pillow is because you can scrunch it into just the right shape.

What are your best travel tips?
The scarf trick is a must. Aside from that, my best travel tip is to never say no to an opportunity. There are people around the world that would kill to see have the experiences that we are given and we should never take it for granted. Even if it's something that you wouldn't really enjoy too much, it's still an experience, a lesson and a moment to keep in your memory bank. Whether it's good or bad, it's a story you can tell to others later.

Out of all the places you've visited, which would you most like to revisit?
I always feel drawn back to beautiful Bali because it's the most chilled and relaxing place in the whole world. Plus you can get a Nasi Goring for a couple of dollars!

What is at the top of your bucket list?
Right now, it's Japan! I've been itching to go and visit Tokyo for so long. I definitely need to make it happen in 2018.

Where do you find your inspiration?
Instagram is the best tool for seeking travel inspiration. Whenever I have a trip planned I like to search the location handle or hashtag and see what hidden gems other travel influencers have found.

Who do you look up to?
My boyfriend Jarrad Seng. He is the most wonderful role model to me and encourages me to work hard for all of goals I want to achieve. Because of him I've made some awesome connections and been able to travel to some amazing destinations. I couldn't have picked a better guy to be on my team ;)

And finally, what are your plans for the upcoming year?
Honestly, no plans at all. I have a long list of places I'd like to visit but at the moment it is still up in the year. Check me out on Instagram or the hatchling.co to keep updated on my plans. You'll know when I know haha :)
